The University of Incarnate Word (UIW) is a non-profit private higher-education institution located in the metropolis of San Antonio, Texas, offering various programs from bachelor, master’s, to doctorate degrees ưith over 135 years of tradition. Countless research opportunities that UIW students are offered at the university labs including:

  • The Autonomous Vehicle Systems (AVS) Lab is undertaking ongoing research in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). 
  • The Acosta Lab utilizes an annelid model system, Lumbriculus variegatus, to study wound healing and regeneration within the central nervous system (CNS). 
  • The Ford research laboratory explores mechanisms involved in kidney cell injury in diabetic nephropathy with an emphasis on oxidative stress due to the production of damaging compounds called oxygen radicals. 
  • Research of the Department of Biology’s laboratory is focused on the investigation of environmental interactions of mixed microbial communities and their potential use of their metabolic activities and products in the promotion of human health.

UIW students bring ideas to life - whether they are testing and launching drones in UWI Autonomous Vehicle Systems Lab, anticipating trends in the Juren Sullivan Center for Fashion Management, storyboarding at the 3D Animation & Game Design lab or recording music in the university’s state-of-the-art studio.

UIW gives students the support, resources, and guidance to become who they want to be and connect theory to practice through internships and real-world experiences. UIW Career Services center offers mock interviews, career fairs, resume workshops and networking opportunities.
